Welcome to The Craven Heifer

As we head into 2023, it’s all go for the team at The Craven Heifer as we launch an exciting new menu and get the log fires lit to provide a cosy welcome for our guests!

Back in 2021, local husband and wife team, Philip and Karen Croft bought the The Craven Heifer and began an extensive programme of refurbishment with the aim of securing the pub’s future for many years to come.  Here, Karen shares insight into their commitment to put the Heifer ‘back on the map’ as a great place to drink, eat and stay:

How would you describe The Craven Heifer?

I’d describe the Heifer as a welcoming village local that serves great beer, delicious food and offers seven truly unique bedrooms.  Given that it’s well over 300 years old, it’s very much part of the community and a friendly place to meet and stay.

What’s your favourite feature and why?

During the winter months, I love the open fires in the snug and restaurant areas, which make the whole place feel so cosy and welcoming. I also adore our Crows’ Nest room, not only for its great view to the Cow and Calf Rocks, but also for the ingenious way that reclaimed timbers have been incorporated into the design.

For whom do you cater?

We literally aim to cater for everyone.  We’re a village pub where anyone will feel welcome, whether simply dropping by for a quick pint or meeting family and friends for a meal.  We have a loyal local following, but also welcome visitors from afar, often those attending weddings at venues such as the Tithe Barn or simply enjoying a relaxing break in the Yorkshire Dales.

What style of menu can guests expect?

Diners can expect a menu based on seasonal, locally sourced ingredients, centred on pub classics, but with a modern twist here and there… Our new, autumn menu has just launched and we’ll soon be posting our seasonal December and Christmas Day menus too.
